This course offers students a broad overview of classical and modern Islamic political thought. It presents the ideas of the influential Islamic political philosophers throughout history. It explores various strands of Islamic political theories. The diverse political thoughts and theories emerging in the Islamic world are investigated through the works of their main proponents. The conceptual basis on political philosophy and related key issues such as power, sovereignty, legitimacy, state, authority and identity are extensively explored.
Course Goals:
• Develop analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Identify key concepts in the field of Islamic politics.
• Recognize the development that took place in the field of Islamic politics.
