The core of the course revolves around playing out a general framework of the central concepts that are essential for the kick start into the field of political science. In light of this, the following concepts, among others, are covered; the definition of political science, state, nation, government, elections, interest groups, pressure groups, political parties, public opinion, political culture, legislatives, executives, judiciary, revolution, resistance, violence, institutions, reforms, sovereignty and legitimacy, public and private spheres, as well as the types of political systems and regimes. Course Goals: • Become aware of the goals, properties and functions of the state and its domestic institutions and groups. • Comprehend and analyze the issues raised by political philosophers and intellectuals, such as; identity, democracy, existence and freedom. • Be aware of different political systems and types of government.

نتائج المقرر:

a. Knowledge and Understanding:

1-	Define the theoretical frameworks related to contemporary political affairs, such as state institutions, types of regimes and state-society relationships.
2-	Recognize political factors such as the presidential and parliamentary elections, constitutional drafting, revolutions and resistance.
3-	Identify the importance and frameworks of issues or concepts of citizenship, state, democracy, social movements, justice and freedom as well as civic engagement and constitutional processes.

b. Intellectual Skills:

1-	Employ the critical way of thinking.
2-	Deepen the knowledge of and the functions of states, institutions and groups, and political processes such as elections, constitutional drafting and peaceful political resistance.
3-	Emphasize on understanding the challenges faced by the political community in Egypt and abroad.

c. Professional and Practical Skills:

1-	Relate and connect between historical events and political theories with contemporary political issues such as the January 25, 2011 events or the June 30, 2013 events and their consequences.
2-	Employ the gained knowledge in the analysis of a variety of case studies.

d. General and Transferable Skills:

1-	Construct logical arguments.
2-	Evaluate social media and other new sources.
