Area of Study :

This course denotes a special emphasis on comparing between the mainstream understanding and roles of international organizations and that of the revising contributions and perspectives on international organizations. In doing so, students are exposed to understanding and critically analyzing the evolution of the internal and external contexts and factors that affect the existence of various international organizations. These factors include: the roles of political agendas of individual states, humanitarian interventions, crisis management, proactive versus reactive policies, questioning the efficiency and effectiveness of existing international organizations, as well as working up for future scenarios for the functionality of the international organizations, while bearing in mind their particularities and contexts. Course Goals: • Become aware of the goals and functions of important international and regional organizations. • Comprehend and analyze crucial challenges facing global governance and the effect of Great Power competition on the future of international organizations.

Course outcomes:

a. Knowledge and Understanding:

1-	Define the historical and structural traits of international and regional institutions, such as the United Nations, the IMF, the World Bank, the European Union, the Arab League, the African Union and others.
2-	Recognize current issues and challenges facing the international and regional organizations, such as; military conflicts, economic cooperation, revolutionary change, and others.
3-	Identify the future challenges facing global governance, like the future of Great Power competition, economic slowdown and environmental deterioration.

b. Intellectual Skills:

1-	Employ different methodologies and critical way of thinking.
2-	Deepen the knowledge of international organizations.
3-	Emphasize on understanding the challenges faced by the international and regional institutions in Egypt, and abroad.

c. Professional and Practical Skills:

1-	Relate and connect between historical events and the foundation of each international institution.
2-	Employ the gained knowledge in the analysis of a variety of international, regional, political and economic case studies.
3-	Illustrate the art of research and use of methodologies in essay writing.

d. General and Transferable Skills:

1-	Construct logical arguments about the role of international organizations in current global challenges.
2-	Evaluate the sources of international news and their credibility.
