The Department of Political Science at Future University is highly ranked among Egypt's best. It provides an ideal setting for students to engage with novel ideas, thorough thinking and creative research in all of the discipline's subfields, as well as in an array of interdisciplinary areas of inquiry. As a community of established and emerging scholars -teachers and students- The department is uniquely positioned to draw upon an Arab perspective as well as the university's intellectual activities and the national cultural diversity, to address the most enduring questions of politics, nationally, regionally and internationally. The Department of Political Science offers a comprehensive curriculum with courses that cover each of the sub-fields of the discipline: Egyptian Government and Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, and Empirical Political Methods. In addition, the department offers several tracks that enable students to focus on a particular area of politics with advanced courses relevant to their particular intellectual and career interests. The department offerings are especially rich in three areas: Egyptian Politics and Policy, Pre-Law and Legal Studies, and World Affairs and National Security. Integrated into these concentrations are learning opportunities outside the classroom. These include political simulations, Model United Nations (MUN), Model American Presidency (MAP), Model of League of Arab States (LAS), internships in state and national government agencies, a nationally ranked Debate Team, and several study abroad programs tailored to political science interests.

Objectives

Students majoring in political science will develop practical and marketable skills which will help them to apply that knowledge to any number of career paths. These skills include:

  • Critical thinking: the ability to read and evaluate primary texts, ideas, theories, and political analysis
  • Analysis and research: the ability to pose and answer questions effectively
  • Argumentation and persuasion: The ability to use logic and evidence to build a persuasive argument.
  • Written and verbal communication: the ability to communicate ideas clearly on paper or through oral presentations
  • Working in groups: the ability to effectively coordinate with others in a project
  • Practical applications: the ability to absorb information gained through coursework and use it effectively in real life or simulated situations.

Upon completion of the Political Science Program, students will be able to:

  • Define historical traits and frameworks related to contemporary political affairs, such as; a state reconstruction, and state-society relationships.
  • Recognize current political affairs on the national, regional and international levels such as, for example: countries in transitions, revolutions and resistance, as well as changes in regional alliances.
  • Identify the importance and frameworks of issues or concepts of citizenship, state, democracy, social movements, justice and freedom as well as civic engagement and constitutions processes.
